The Old The Old Schoolhouse Magazine newsletter today listed the homeschooling trends that are on the rise.

Here is the list:

  • -- "Homeschooling - that is, parent-led home-based education - is an age-old traditional educational practice that a decade ago appeared to be cutting-edge and 'alternative' but is now bordering on 'mainstream' in the United States. It may be the fastest-growing form of education in the United States (5% to 12% per year)." - National Homeschool Education Research Institute (www.nheri.org)
  • -- Fox News reports there are "more than 2 million homeschooled students in the United States. Homeschooling is no longer just an offbeat trend or an avant-garde educational choice." www.fox.news
  • -- In these unfavorable financial times, "TOS expects the homeschooling market to increase due to the enormous number of parents facing the inability to keep their children in private schools." - Gena Suarez
  • -- In September of this year, CBS News started reporting about homeschooling as a multi-billion dollar business regarding the $1.5 billion spent on materials and $3.5 billion spent on services such as tutoring, etc. Spending is on the rise in the homeschooling community. - www.cbsnews.com
  • -- Josh Gordon, from Smarter Media Sales, says that that over the past half-century, there have been nine recessions, lasting an average of eleven months each. People are making changes based on financial pressure, and homeschooling is an increasingly attractive and economically beneficial choice.
  • -- Homeschooling has proven that it works, and Ivy League colleges and universities are accepting and likely even pursuing homeschoolers. - www.princeton.edu

As you can see, more and more families are realizing the financial benefits of homeschooling.
